Transitioning Your Wardrobe From Summer to Fall Kate Ferguson - October 27, 2015 18:39

In most places the temperatures are starting to drop but not so much that we’re ready to go full on winter wardrobe. The transition period can require a little extra thought when it comes making good investment purchases but don’t worry ladies, creating a fresh fall wardrobe doesn’t mean completely packing away those summer favorites. We’ve rounded up some of the best transitional pieces that not only fit well across the seasons but also do it well.

Keep the Skirts, Change Up the Legwear

Your favorite neutral mini skirt should not be set aside for fall, all you need to do is change up the clothing items around it. Switching from a sandal to fall boot for example will create a totally different vibe. Our Lush Taupe Mini Skirt for example is basic enough to work as an outfit starting point, and cute enough to carry an outfit no matter what you pair it with. We love it equally with a bodysuit for the hotter days and an oversized sweater on the cooler ones.

Sans Souci Suede Skirt

Our San Souci A-Line Olive Skirt has the same appeal. The cut works great with a variety of tops, and the color is leaning in towards the fall palate but can be worn as a neutral so it’s pretty versatile. Lily Colins demonstrated a perfect example of this recently. Her version here of the a-line skirt is longer but still olive, and you can see how equally well it worked on the red carpet as when she was out running errands.

Opt For Flirty Layering Items

Sans Souci Slit TunicTops and sweaters with fun twists are ideal for keeping things interesting while rocking basics. Our San Souci Grey Slit Top for example is all sweater on top and fun, unexpected slits on the sides. The appeal of this top for the transitional months is that it can be worn over shorts or over leggings that you already own and love. It can also go super casual or be dressed up with heels.

 Pull Out the Jackets

Sometimes just adding a jacket on top of an already existing warm weather outfit is enough to keep it working into fall. Jacket styles tend to stay in style for years on end, so when you find a great one (or two) you’re pretty much set. We love a little juxtaposition in an outfit as well…imagine edging up the sweet lace details of our Audrey 3 + 1 Wanderlust Romper with a leather (or faux leather) jacket and a bold lip. Sometimes it’s just that easy!
